Helping Kids Problem Solve to be Taught in Central Indiana Workshops

Online Credit Card Registrants Save $5 for April 13, 22 Indiana Youth Institute Trainings

INDIANAPOLIS – Children in today’s society are faced with obstacles and difficulties every day that can be avoided if they choose to solve problems in the correct manner. The Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is offering youth workers in Central Indiana two opportunities to learn fundamental ways to help children become better problem-solvers.

School counselors, case managers, probation/juvenile justice professionals, foster parents, youth ministers, mentors, afterschool program managers and others who impact the lives of youth in Central Indiana can register for the workshop, “Teaching Kids How to Problem Solve.”

The workshop will be presented twice in Indianapolis with each session running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The first session will take place April 13 at the Holiday Inn North at the Pyramids 3850 DePauw Blvd., Indianapolis, Ind. 46268. The second session will be presented April 22 at the Holiday Inn Southeast, 5302 Victory Dr., Indianapolis, 46203.

The sessions will be taught by Dennis Bumgarner, director of the Chapel Hill Center for Brief Therapy in Indianapolis and one of IYI’s most popular trainers. Bumgarner’s training educates youth workers on places to start the problem-solving process, common problem-solving mistakes made by kids and ways to help chilren maintain change, once started. Armed with this knowledge, youth workers can transform themselves from mere advice-givers to engaged adults who help young people tap into their personal resources for changing as well as learning new approaches for problem-solving.

On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Cost of the training is $45, but individuals can save $5 by registering online with a credit card for this or other IYI trainings at www.iyi.org/training_registration. Continuing Education Hours for the workshop are available through the National Association of Social Workers, the Indiana Association of Prevention Professionals, and the National Council on Family Relations for Certified Family Life Educators. Continuing Renewal Units (CRUs) are available for teachers, school counselors and other licensed school professionals.

Bumgarner is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist and has presented numerous training workshops for parents, therapists, counselors, school personnel, businesses and other organizations across the country on a variety of topics related to human behavior.
