CACFP is Hosting a Preconference at the Indiana Early Childhood Conference Thursday, April 11, 2013

8:30am-4:45pm

Registration for Preconference is FREE for the first 100 CACFP participants, which include homes, centers or ministries who request PO #

Steps to recieve PO #:

Step 1: Contact Heather Stinson at hstinson@doe.in.gov or 317-232-0869 to recieve a PO# for FREE Preconference Registration (ones who get a PO# are expected to attend the entire day of the conference)

Step 2: Use PO# to register for the preconference on IAEYC's website at:

• The PO# ONLY covers the cost of registration for the CACFP preconference.  It will not pay for other preconferences or regular conference sessions.  You may choose to pay for general conference at the time of registration, but you are not required to.  LUNCH WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.  Lunch break will be from 12:00pm to 1:15pm

On March 9, 2013, Peace Learning Center is partnering with Children's Resource Group, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Indiana State Teachers Association, and the Arts Council of Indianapolis to host a one-day symposium entitled Bullying Prevention: Creating a Culture of Acceptance at the Indiana Convention Center.
The symposium will bring together people from various corners of our community who all have a vested interest in this topic. We have also decided to incorporate the arts into this memorable day in hopes that we will be able to touch people's hearts as well as their minds, thereby prompting each participant to subsequently become involved in this effort in a real way.
The goals of the event are to:
• Raise awareness of the serious nature of bullying & how it impacts every sector of our community.
• Help participants understand that prevention is the most effective way to address the problem.
• Empower attendees to become actively involved in preventing bullying in individual situations & in the larger community.

Sewing with young children

 

Toddler sewing, non slip drawer lining (big holes), plastic needle and yarn. This is an excellent way to teach the craft of sewing and embroidery to young children.  This is a great hand eye coordination activity as well as fine motor skills.

Potty Training Tip

What is good quality child care and how does it impact early learning? This afternoon, radio talk show host Amos Brown is devoting his full two-hour program to that topic from 1-3 p.m. on WTLC 1310 AM.


Amos invited United Way of Central Indiana to assemble a panel of guests to the conversation. In the first hour, joining United Way's Education Director Dr. Ted Maple and Melanie Brizzi, director of the Indiana Bureau of Child Care for the Family and Social Services Administration, will be:

• Juaneka (Nikki) Ennis, director, Charity Child Care, the first and only child care ministry in the state to reach Level 4 (highest quality) on Paths to QUALITY. It is one of the ministries United Way has partnered with to help them improve quality.

• Shalonda Murray, director, Auntie Mame’s Child Development Center, a United Way agency. Auntie Mame’s is a Level 4 child care center in the Paths to QUALITY program. They serve low income families.

• Jennifer McQueen, consumer education specialist from the Indiana Association of Child Care Resource and Referral. She works as a consultant for parents seeking child care.
Second hour guests will discuss how faith-based providers can and do provide high quality care and why child care matters to business. Joining the panel will be:

• Pastor Mike Bowling , from Englewood Christian Church. Pastor Bowling is a passionate supporter of quality child care and serves near eastside parents and children at Daystar Child Care. They have advanced to Level 3 on the Paths to QUALITY rating while partnering with United Way.

• Mike O’Connor, United Way board member and member of United Way’s Ready to Learn, Ready to Earn Committee; business leader at Eli Lilly and Company and former chief deputy mayor to Bart Peterson.
